Bough Beech on a very windy Sunday morning with Denis

Today I arrived at Bough Beech at around 09.20am and met up with Denis, there was a strong wind blowing which was very cold but refreshing at the same time. There didn't appear to be much about, probably due to the cold wind which made listening for calls/songs very difficult.

The list of birds we spotted is as follows:

Pheasant
Grey Heron
Great Crested Grebe
Shoveler
Pochard
Wigeon
Cormorant
Mallard
Teal
Tufted Duck
Jackdaw
Great Tit
Blue Tit
Moorhen
Wren
Magpie
Common Gull (thanks Warren)

Photos all taken with Dave's lens as mine not arrived as yet!

  1. Phil ,
Good to meet yourself and Denis this morning !!!
I was the one with green fleece , wooly hat , glasses and carrying tripod and backpack . We spoke where you took the shot of Denis re. the Mandarins , funny old world isn't it ? If you hadn't posted that shot of Denis , neither of us would be any the wiser .
On my way back , I think you were just taking the flight shot of the Pochard that lifted off the North Lake and flew down the reservoir . Only managed Nuthatch and Great Spotted Woodpecker in the orchard over and above yours , before the bird ringers went in everything dispersed .
    Let's hope next time it'll be a better day , birdwise .

  3. Phil those 3 Gulls in the blue sky look to be Common Gulls.

  4. In the multiple gull shot across the res the one top right could be a Mediterranean Gull, compare with the obvious Common Gull top right, most of the others are Black Headed Gulls with the smokey underwing showing (doesn't in the top right bird which also shows blunt wing tips). I could well be wrong due to light conditions etx but it does look good from here.

    Cheers
