Oare Marshes on Monday 3rd May with Mandy

On Monday morning Mandy and I derove to Oare Marshes near Faversham and arrived around 11.30am. The 1st bird spotted was a Pied Wagtail and this was lurking in the car park of all places.
Black Headed Gulls and Oystercatchers were in abundance on the mudflats as the tide was out, also a few Curlews spotted feeding. A lone Magpie flew over us and a few Greylag Geese were nestled down in the reed area as a very strong wind was blowing up the estuary! Mute Swans spotted and a lone Avocet, the latter wass spotted from the sea wall hide along with Shelducks and Mallards.
Mandy spotted a Reed Bunting as we made our way towards the next hide, it was struggling to cling to a reed in the ferocious wind.
Coots and a lot of Black Tailed Godwits were in the usual spot on a small grassy island in front of one of the hides, also a lone Lapwing I spotted.
A Little Egret was next along and a lot of Swifts and Swallows and a pair of Little Grebes. Greenshank and Tufted Duck next and around 7 Common Terns, a Moorhen and to end a lovely view of a Kestrel hovering looking for food.
No photos today as the wind was manic and I was struggling to hold the scope still, a good couple of hours birding though.

  1. You get days like that - photography wise. Still, its good to cocentrate on the birds sometimes.

  2. Hi Phil and Mandy.
Oare Marsh is always a good place for birding and photography. It is a shame you had a bad weather day. You should go again on a decent day. You should get some good shots as the bird are often pretty close.
