The 1st spot of the day was a Pied Wagtail which flew in front of me, and this was followed by a pair of Canada Geese honking over us. Coots and Mute Swans were in abundance along with Tufted Ducks. The Common Terns are still in residence, they are a lovely bird too watch in flight, very agile they are. Great Crested Grebes and Mallards spotted along with a fly over and a stationary Grey Heron. I spotted a pair of male Mandarin Ducks beneath the tree line on the small lake with my scope, another fantastic looking bird. A noisy pair of Greylags were quite close to us and a small amount of Swallows darting about and having a feast on the horrid midges! Magpies was the next spot and then a Common Buzzard soaring above us on the thermals. Blue Tits could be heard in the hedgerow along with Chiffchaff. A pair of male Shelducks were sunning themselves on the rocky island on the small lake, pair of Cormorants flew over and last but not least my 1st ever Nightingale, I only caught a quick glimpse of it but could hear its lovely song, a gentleman that was also there said to us that the female is actually sitting on a nest. Like Warren says, the Nightingale is a great bird with a terrific song, but a bugger so see.
